E-ternity Helps Crawford Adjusters Canada Meet Corporate Disaster Recovery Objectives

Crawford Adjusters Canada is a division of Crawford & Company, an Atlanta, Georgia based organization that is the world's largest independent provider of claims management solutions to insurance companies and self-insured entities through more than 700 offices in 63 countries.

Recognizing their increasing dependence on IT to deliver their core services, Crawford developed a plan to modify their existing Disaster Recovery protocols. When Crawford first began discussions with E-ternity back in January of 2005, they set a deadline that required Crawford to strengthen their existing Disaster Recovery process by Q3 of 2005. Scott Sutherland, Crawford’s Chief Information Officer, knew this was an aggressive goal. “E-ternity helped us assess our current situation and quickly identified innovative solutions that not only addressed our current needs, but helped us anticipate future demands as well,” began Sutherland. “They stayed focused and committed throughout the process, and their Professional Consulting Services team gave us complete confidence that these solutions would be implemented successfully and without delay.”

E-ternity developed a high-availability solution that included Crawford’s existing IBM Blade Server and Storage Area Network environment. This existing infrastructure was integrated with VMware’s virtualization software, EMC’s Centera data archiving hardware and software solution, EMC/Legato’s Email and Disk Xtender software, EMC/Legato’s RepliStor Data Replication software, and Asigra’s Remote Backup software. This solution also included a Work Group Recovery Solution from Sungard that provided Crawford with emergency access to Sungard’s state-of-the-art Recovery Facility to allow them to continue their Call Centre services to their customers with a moment’s notice. The entire solution, which delivers complete redundancy to Crawford’s mission critical systems, was designed by E-ternity. “Crawford Adjusters Canada has always been a forward-thinking organization from an IT perspective. They recognized that to continue to maintain their competitive advantage, modifying their Disaster Recovery Plan was the next logical step.” said E-ternity’s Managing Director of Sales Greg Onoprijenko.

The area of data archiving was a particular priority for Crawford, given their organization’s commitment in adhering to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) in the U.S. Given SOX’s strict policies regarding retention of records and specifically email, Crawford needed to ensure that their email archive solution addressed all requirements. EMC’s Centera Solution, combined with their Email Xtender Software solution, delivered the functionality they needed, and allowed them to be compliant with all current legislation.
